What is the Give Me Liberty Awards Program?
It's United We Pledge's civic education program built around the Awards booklet. Students learn American history, citizenship, and liberty through hands-on activities: reading inspiring stories, learning important facts, creating projects, interviewing real-life heroes, and completing a service project to help others.
How does a student earn a medal?
The booklet includes 29 activities. A teacher, parent, or classroom helper signs off each finished activity on the Completion Checklist in the back of the booklet. Activity 1, the pretest, is required.
- Bronze 16+ activities
- Silver 21+ activities
- Gold 27+ activities
Completing all 29 earns a bonus prize. Medal earners may also receive additional prizes, which vary from year to year.
Does a family need to be part of a school program?
No. Homeschool students and individual families can complete the Awards Program at home, with a parent signing off each activity.
Is the school program the same as the Family Awards Program?
Both use the same Awards booklet, activities, and medal levels. The school program adds classroom visits from historical character actors and a visit from the Liberty Bus, and UWP prints and delivers the booklets and provides the prizes. Families work through the booklet independently at home.
Are classroom visits or the Liberty Bus part of the family program?
Classroom visits from historical character actors are part of the school program. Community groups can request a Liberty Bus visit separately.
How do I order the Family Awards Program?
Contact a UWP representative to place your order. Let them know how many students are participating and whether you need shipping. Contact UWP or call 435-261-9940.
How does a school bring Give Me Liberty to its students?
The program begins each fall and runs for a semester. Teachers submit a request form, and administrator approval is required before a classroom can begin. Request Give Me Liberty
How much does the school program cost?
$500 covers the entire school program, including the Liberty Bus, historical character presentations, Awards booklets, and prizes. PTAs funding their school's program can contact UWP for an invoice.
