ABOUT GIVE ME LIBERTY

The Give Me Liberty Awards program is a civic education initiative for 5th-, 8th-, and 12th-grade students. This program promotes an understanding of our nation’s founding history and principles of liberty, unity, freedom, and patriotism.

Give Me Liberty Awards

At the heart of the program is the Give Me Liberty Awards booklet, which guides students through engaging tasks, including educational activities, community service projects, and opportunities for memorization of important people, places, and events in American History.

Students explore stories of American heroes and learn about key documents like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

The program also includes opportunities for students to interview veterans and elected officials, fostering civic awareness.

The Liberty Bus

The Liberty Bus, a mobile exhibit, provides an interactive experience of American history, reinforcing that “anything is possible” in America due to our liberties.

Classroom Experiences

To make our history and civics lessons more captivating we bring character actors into the classroom! The characters, such as George Washington or Abigail Adams, among others, bring history to life for these youth participants. Our historical figures are exceptional at bringing ideas like liberty and rights to the discussion and invite the imagination of these youth to continue to learn more.

Students track their achievements and earn awards, which include medals and T-shirts, motivating them to further explore civic education.

To bring the Give Me Liberty program to your school, parents can contact their teachers and administrators. The program begins each fall, and teachers can sign up by completing the request form on our website. Together, we can inspire a new generation of engaged citizens!

They get to learn about principles taught in the Declaration or enshrined in the Constitution as if from the mouths of those that penned the words.

Through games and activities, these principles are firmly implanted ready to grow into new ideas as we teach them to reach for and achieve their “impossible” dreams.

GML Program Add-Ons

The Give Me Liberty is an entirely self-contained supplement to your own teaching of American history and civics. However, if you’d like to dive in more, perhaps access a scholarship or cash awards for your students or gather and sing a tribute to America, we have additional resources that are separate organizations whom we support and vice versa.

National Civics Bee

United We Pledge is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to host a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.

Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Finalists will be invited to Washington, DC to compete in the National Civics Bee® national championship.

Essays are due, usually, around February, regional competitions typically happen in April or May. State competitions happen in the summer and the National competition happens in the fall. The winners of each stage receive various awards and prizes, the national winner has received about $100,000 worth of scholarships and other prizes.

Saving Dr. Warren: Read, Ponder, Write

United We Pledge supports the Help Patriotism Prevail organization and brings a book for reading into classrooms: “Saving Dr. Warren, A True Patriot” Reading the book as a class reinforces the principles of liberty explored in the Give Me Liberty program, plus youth will be able to take part in an essay contest and have “Dr. Warren” personally visit the classroom and present awards associated with the contest.

“The Help Patriotism Prevail Team partners with schools  and youth education programs across the country. With the help of sponsors we provide free copies of Saving Dr. Warren… “A True Patriot” to give an affordable option for engaging, patriotic, and historical content. We also organize an annual  patriotic essay contest centered around the novel and it’s message.”

Hope of America

Hope of America is an initiative that brings together schools from across Utah and the United States to celebrate the core values that make America strong. Each year, fifth-grade students unite in red, white, and blue to form a giant American flag, symbolizing the unity and spirit of our nation. This musical program serves as a platform for teaching young people about the importance of patriotism, civic responsibility, and service.

Hope of America strives to create a sense of pride and respect for our country, its history, and the ideals that define us. The organization desires to make a lasting impact by instilling values of gratitude, service, and community involvement in our next generation.
